Hameed Haroon |
Hameed Haroon born in Karachi on October 27th 1952 holds a Master’s degree in Regional Studies (East Asia) from Harvard University and two Master’s degree in Political Economy and Development Economics, from the Boston University. He also holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Economics from the London School of Economics. From 1998 to date, he has served as Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Herald Publications (Pvt.) Ltd. & Pakistan Herald Ltd., the publishers and printers of the Dawn Group of Newspapers.
Prior to this, he was Deputy Chief Executive. Mr. Hameed Haroon has thrice been President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, the apex body of all the major Newspapers and Magazines in Pakistan. A leading culture,and human rights activist of Pakistan. He is also involved in the promotion of culture, music and performing arts, films and theater, visual arts, community services, conservation and heritage archaeology, education and health. He currently serves on various communities related to these projects. Presently he is Chairman Executive Committee for the development of Mohenjodaro Member of the National Cultural Heritage Committee and the Managing Trustee of the Mohatta Palace Museum. Hameed Haroon has made several appearances in the electronic media as presenter for UK’s Channel 4 TV in London and as a political commentator on New Delhi TV in India. He has also of directed plays for both theater and television in Pakistan. He has also been associated with the publishing of several books. He was the co-curator of the Holy Sinner- a mojor retrospective of the non-calligraphic works of Sadequain, Pakistan’s well-known prolific artist. He was also the moving spirit for the 600 page catalogue of this colossal exhibition, the lingest running art exhibition in Pakistan’s history. In 2004, he curated another spectacular exhibition entitled “Jewel in the Crown – Karachi under the Raj 1843 -1947. This exhibition brought together over 200 photographs, portraits and artefacts providing rare insights into Karachi from another era. Over 250,000 spectators viewed the magnificent exhibition and due to popular demand, this exhibition remained open toll March 2006.
He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest civil award in 2004 and other awards both national and international for this contribution to arts and culture. In 2006, the Italian Ambassador Mr. Roberto Mazzaotta conferred the Italian Order of Merit award on one of the “most outstanding public personalities in Pakistan on behalf of the President of Italy. He is associated with the publishing and reprinting of seven books on art. Besides his varied interests, Hameed Haroon is fluent in Mandarin, Chinese and has one of the largest private collections of paintings and books. |

Muhammad Aslam Kazi S/o. Kazi Muhammad Akbar born at Hyderabad Sindh is an M.A (Economics) from University of Sindh. After Completing education joined Banking Industry and was posted in Doha Qatar and London. Joined Journalism in 1976 as Editor of Sindhi Daily, Sindh News and English Daily Sindh Observer, Hyderabad. Started Daily Kawish in 1990 and presently working as its Chief Editor. He is widely traveled and has visited America, Europe, Middle East, South and Far East Asia. He served APNS Executive Committee for several times, served as Finance Secretary of APNS for the year 2000-2001, and Joint Secretary 2001-2002. He served as Secretary General of APNS 2003-04, 2004-05, 2007-08 and 2008-09. He is Vice Chairman of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA). |

Umer Mujib Shami is among the breed of young newspaper entrepreneurs who have recently joined the ranks of A.P.N.S. He holds Masters Degree in Business Administration from Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS). He had a distinguished educational career and also let the LUMS team to victory in World Business Games held in Georgia USA. He got his initial journalistic training in The News International and worked there as Commerce Reporter for one year before joining LUMS. He remained an avid reader and a regular contributor to different newspapers and periodicals on issue of national importance. He also worked in Jardine Fleming, a renowned Honk Kong based investment group for some time. He also briefly worked as editor of weekly “Zindagi” an influential political weekly after his graduation. Mr. Umer Mujib Shami assumed the responsibility of publisher and Managing Editor of Daily Pakistan on January 01, 1999. one of the largest national urdu newspaper. The Newspaper at that time was facing financial difficulties and was confronted by declining revenues in the face of ever increasing competition. However in the last seven years, the newspaper is put back on the road to growth and progress under his management. At present the newspaper is being published from five stations simultaneously and is among the most respected and trusted names in the Pakistani Journalism. He served as the Finance Secretary of APNS from April 2007 to March 2009. The Pakistan group of Publication is at present participating in a number of new venture in media and IT sector, under his management. |

Sarmad A. Ali |
Sarmad A. Ali is the Managing Director Marketing & Advertising Sales of Jang Group. He is responsible for marketing and advertising sales of print, electronic and online brands of the group. This included eight of the country’s leading print titles including Jang, and The News: and FM 101. Sarmad has over twenty years experience in marketing, advertising and media management. He has been associated with the Jang Group since 1994 when he joined the group as Executive Director of The News. In 1997 he took over as the Group’s Executive Director Marketing & Advertising Sales and was promoted as Managing Director in 2006. Prior to joining the Jang Group, Sarmad had been associated with some of the country’s leading advertising companies including IAL/Saatchi, where he worked as Director Client Services from 1987 to 1993. Described as of one of Pakistan’s marketing thought leaders, Sarmad has been thrice the President of Marketing Association of Pakistan. In 1999, he was awarded the coveted Marketing Excellence Award for his contribution in the field of Marketing. He is presently Prisident of the International Advertising Association’s Pakistan Chapter. He has previously served as Council Member of the Management Association of Pakistan and has also been on the Board of Director of the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation and the Executive Council of Market Research Society of Pakistan. He represents the Jang Group in the All Pakistan Newspapers Society. He has also served as member of the Prime Minister’s Task force on Privatization & Investment in 2003 and the Sindh IT Board from 2001-2003. Sarmad has also been on the Board of Governors of the Worldwide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-P). Sarmad was responsible for setting up Pakistan’s first television audience measurement system in 1991. He has a master’s degree from Villanova University, Pa, USA. He served as Joint Secretary of APNS for the year 2007 2008 and 2009. |

Shimaila Matri Dawood is Editor-in-Chief of Daily Millat Gujrati and Urdu and Managing Editor of Investigative magazine, Notebook. Ms. Matri is the daughter of the late veteran journalist and Sitar-e-Imtiaz recipient. Inquilab Matri and granddaughter of the founder of the Millat Group Fakhre Matri. She is a graduate of the London School of Economics where she read for a degree in Economics with Economic History. She has also obtained a postgraduate degree with distinction from the University of London. Ms Matri has served as one of the editors of Newsline Magazine before joining the Millat Group where she worked under her father for many years. In 2008 she founded Notebook Magazine, a political investigative magazine in Urdu. Ms Matri is a recipient of various International and local journalism awards. In 2002 she won the APNS Best Feature Writer Award. This was followed by an UNESC and PPF award for best reporting by a female journalist in 2003 and another Best Feature Award by the APNS in 2004. Ms Matri was also the first Pakistani journalist to be awarded a prestigious CNN young journalist award (YJA) in 2005 and a placement in CNN Islamabad and Delhi. |

Syed Muhammad Munir Jilani born on 1st June, 1964 at Faisalabad. M.A Journalism with Roll of Honour, from Punjab University Lahore, Chief Editor Daily Paigham, Faisalabad, Lahore. He started his career in journalism in 1983 as Editor-in-Charge. Also worked with Mashriq and APP for some time in 1988 and then assumed the charge of Chief Editor Daily Paigham. He was Joint Secretary CPNE for the year 2005-2006. He is serving Executive Committee of the APNS for the last 15 years |
