Mir Javed Rahman is the Chairman of the Jang Group of Publications, the largest
chain of newspapers and periodicals in Pakistan which has a readership of
millions and reaches the remotest areas of the country. Born in Delhi on August
16, 1946 Mir Javed Rahman is the eldest son of late Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman who
founded the Jang Group. Journalism is, therefore, in his blood. In terms of
quality, content, circulation and popularity the publications of the Jang Group,
he heads has no peers. The Daily Jang has maintained its supremacy in
circulation for almost five decades.
He graduated from Karachi University where he read Islamic History and went on
to receive a Masters Degree from the same University. He then proceeded abroad
to study new techniques in the print media. In 1972 he received a diploma in
newspaper management from the Thomson Foundation Editorial Centre at the
University of Wales (U.K.)
Spurred by the success of the publications at home, Daily Jang and The News were
also launched in Britain where these papers have become a staple diet of a large
immigrant community. The Daily Jang is the largest circulated Urdu newspaper
from London. Mir Javed Rahman nurtured the growth of these publications abroad
in his capacity as Chairman and Chief Executive of Jang International.
Mir Javed Rahman has been elected President of the All Pakistan Newspapers
Society (APNS) once and its Secretary General thrice. He is a member of the
Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE). He is a member of the
International Press Institute (IPI). Common Wealth Press Union (CPU) London and
the Federation Internationale Des Editeurs De Journax (FIEJ), Paris.
Widely traveled, Mir Javed Rahman has accompanied heads of state and heads of
government of Pakistan on several state visits, as part of their official
delegations. Ever a journalist, he has had the honour to interview amongst
others the former prime minister of Japan Nakasone, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, General
Zia-ul-Haq and Mohammad Nawaz Sharif.
